Aging with HIV and Chronic Kidney Disease Evidence-Based Management Across the Care Continuum

This educational program addresses a critical knowledge gap among regarding the care of PWH presenting with CKD. As the population of aging PWH with CKD grows, clinicians must be equipped to manage HIV-specific considerations, including antiretroviral therapy (ART) compatibility with dialysis. The program dispels common misconceptions and fosters interdisciplinary collaboration among nephrology, clinical pharmacy, and primary care to improve patient outcomes through integrated, stigma-free care. Fragmented care models and persistent misconceptions underscore the need for integrated, interdisciplinary approaches that align nephrology and HIV management

 

Target Audience

Infectious disease clinicians, nephrology clinicians (MDs, NPs, PAs, nurses), primary care clinicians (MDs, NPs, PAs, nurses), and pharmacists who care for PWH.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the educational activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe common causes and pathogenesis of CKD in PWH.
  2. Utilize appropriate clinical and work-up strategies for CKD in PWH.
  3. Outline current management approaches to CKD in PWH, including ART selection, management of comorbidities, and other adjunctive therapies for the interprofessional care team.
  4. Evaluate current and emerging evidence for safety and efficacy of different antiretroviral agents in CKD.
