Educational Objectives:

  • Review the basic principles of Eating Disorders (ED)
  • Delineate lesser known diagnoses that are more common in the college population including Atypical Anorexia Nervosa  
  • Identify medical complications that may arise from all ED 
  • Explicate the assessment of ED 
  • Discuss comorbidities (especially with OCD and Substance Use Disorders which are common among college students )
  • Provide an overview of different treatment modalities utilized to treat ED

Karen Chinca, LICSW, CED:

  • Licensed independent clinical social worker (LICSW) and Certified Eating Disorders Specialist-Supervisor (CEDS-S).
  • Two decades of experience treating clients with a wide range of diagnoses.
  • Specializes in adults with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and trauma, particularly college and graduate students
  • Master of Social Work from Boston College and a Master of Business Administration from Boston University in Health Care Management.
  • Certified Diplomate of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy and hold a certificate in CBT from Boston University.
  • Graduate of the International OCD Foundation’s Behavior Therapy Training Institute
  • Certified Eating Disorders Specialist-Supervisor (CEDS-S) through The International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (IAEDP), endorsing and promoting a Health at Every Size (HAES) approach.
