Polypharmacy and Older People with HIV: Insights from the HIVE Program

This activity addresses the current state of HIV in the US and healthy aging considerations for persons living with HIV (PWH). Our experts speak about issues of polypharmacy and the importance of medication reconciliation and safe deprescribing. Also included are brief vignettes of an interview with an actual patient. His perspective will provide insight into the daily challenges and quality of life issues that can occur while living with HIV.

Target Audience

Infectious disease specialists, geriatricians, primary care and internal medicine physicians, NP/PAs, pharmacists, and nurses

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the educational activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe the impact of polypharmacy and medication regimen complexity on health-related quality of life among people aging with HIV.
  2. Outline steps in conducting a medication reconciliation amongst people with HIV.
  3. Apply a deprescribing algorithm in people with HIV.
