Disability Competent Care
This 30-minute training module will focus on an introduction to healthcare experiences of people with disabilities and knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to care for patients with disabilities using disability-competent care strategies.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this activity, the learner or the healthcare team should be able to:
- Describe how to better communicate with patients with disabilities about their unique needs and required accommodations to have a successful clinical care encounter;
- Recognize how to appropriately interact with patients with disabilities to reduce the instance of negative encounters;
- Provide clinical care staff and care givers with language, skills, and strategies to interact with patients with disabilities, understand their needs, and make appropriate adjustments to accommodate those needs.
