The Intersection of Domestic Violence and Brain Injury (Enduring)

This program led by Psychologist Dr. Dorothy Kozlowski, PhD, and Social Worker Dr. Sonya Crabtree-Nelson, PhD will delve into the intersection of intimate partner violence/domestic violence (IPV/DV) and brain injuries. Attendees will gain essential knowledge and skills for recognizing, assessing, and responding to IPV/DV survivors, particularly those who have experienced brain injuries.

Target Audience

Social Workers, Psychologists, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses. Allied health professionals are welcome.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this activity, the learner or the healthcare team should be able to:

  • Identify concussion signs and symptoms.
  • Describe of the correlation between IPV/DV and brain injuries.
  • Describe the impacts DV/IPV has on survivors symptoms and recovery.
  • Identify the barriers to treatment for DV/IPV survivors.
  • Recall available resources for DV/IPV survivors.
  • Identify other healthcare providers who DV/IPV survivors should be referred to for comprehensive care.
