
Advancing TBI Care for the Military Community
This course led by Dr. Sidney Hinds, MD, offers an overview of traumatic brain injury (TBI) recognition, management, and recovery in service members and veterans. Participants learn about current Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs approaches to TBI care, emphasizing early diagnosis, comprehensive assessment, and coordinated rehabilitation. The program highlights the overlap between TBI and post-traumatic stress disorder, common comorbidities, and strategies to promote optimal brain health. Designed for healthcare professionals across disciplines, this activity provides practical guidance to improve outcomes and support the unique needs of military and veteran populations affected by brain injury

At the end of this activity, the learner or the healthcare team should be able to:
- Differentiate between the types of traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) and describe their potential long-term outcomes
- Recognize the signs and symptoms of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBi)
- Identify the clinical features associated with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE)
- Describe 2 common co-morbidities linked to mTBIs
- Apply the Progressive Return to Activity Protocol following an mTBI
- Recognize how interprofessional communication enhances TBI outcomes
