The Birth Equity Journey: Optimizing Management of Obstetric Hemorrhage; Enduring Activity 5: 10/19/2021 Webinar Recording

This enduring activity is a recording of a live webinar presentation that was delivered on October 19, 2021.

The agenda includes a comprehensive review of HEM structure and process measure data submitted so far to BLC, a discussion of participants' insights on their experiences in the HEM collaborative thus far, and a “QI Learning from Peers” segment on using the PDSA (Plan-Do-Study-Act) cycle while implementing Quantitative Blood Loss.

This webinar series provides training for obstetric healthcare providers on (1) the definitions and rates of severe maternal morbidity, (2) the practice guidelines to address SMM (maternal safety bundles), (3) collecting and stratifying SMM data based on race/ethnicity, and (4) recognizing and implementing the structures and processes to improve maternal health outcomes.

The series also outlines how to build collaborative and interdisciplinary teams to implement quality improvement initiatives and improve patient-centered and equitable care during pregnancy and postpartum. Also included are the practice components or maternal safety bundles, the process measures that indicate quality care, and strategies to provide equitable care for pregnant and postpartum people. 

 

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of primary care physicians, anesthesiologists, emergency medicine and family medicine physicians, obstetricians, pediatricians, mental health professionals, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners and midwives

 

 

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe and implement clinical best practice of the AIM maternal safety bundles
  2. Describe and implement the safety bundles using the improvement science process
  3. Complete structure and process measures of the safety bundles
  4. Discuss teaming process to utilize improvement science
  5. Implement strategies to improve pregnancy experiences and birth outcomes for MA families as part of a state collaborative
