Claiming Credit for Session

Educational Needs Addressed
In this meeting, the RESTORE Center discussed the gap in training for providers to address race-based stress and trauma (RBST). This training aided in bridging gaps in knowing how to approach race-based stress and trauma and working to reduce related symptoms for their clients.
There is a gap in understanding the true impact that racism has in many aspects of people’s lives. The activity reviewed the impact that racism has on physical and mental health, power and privilege, institutional and systemic oppression, and overt and covert racism.
Participants also had the opportunity to practice some of the skills in the RBSTE curriculum during the Practice Breakout Sessions. The breakouts were interactive case-study sessions that allowed participants to simulate a real clinic interaction.
Learners from different professions were educated on different interventions to reduce race-based stress and trauma such as mindfulness, empowerment, and resilience.
Target Audience
Physicians, nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, licensed mental health counselors. peer specialists and operational staff.

At the completion of this activity, participants will be better able to:
- Define Race-Based Stress and Trauma
- Recognize emotional responses to racism, microaggressions, stress, and mental health.
- Understand the impact of racism on their clients.
