OB/GYN and PCPs participating in the ECHO Prenatal Program will demonstrate increased knowledge of the hazards of PAE and options for screening for alcohol use during pregnancy, using validated screening tools.

OB/GYN and PCPs participating in the ECHO Prenatal Program will demonstrate increased self-efficacy in identifying and addressing alcohol use during pregnancy, using SBIRT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and facilitated referrals to community resources.

OB/GYN and PCPs participating in the ECHO Prenatal Program will report increased use of recommended methods of identifying and addressing alcohol use during pregnancy. 

Target Audience

Prenatal Care Providers, including family medicine/primary care/OB practitioners, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, behavioral health practitioners, case managers, medical assistants

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Describe the steps of the Brief Negotiated Interview

  • Describe the motivational interview strategy of "Elicit - Provide - Elicit"

  • Recall examples of "change talk"

  • Summarize how to assess for readiness to change and negotiate behavior change goals
