Reality Check:

  • 48% of American adults experience anxiety about doctor’s visits. 
  • 40% of American adults put off seeing their doctor because of healthcare anxiety.
  • 36% of U.S. adults have basic or below-basic health literacy.

Patients with low health literacy are more likely to have more healthcare needs.

The Good News: In one patient poll, 87% of respondents stated that they trust their healthcare provider. How do we leverage this trust to increase health literacy (and vice versa)? By adopting a narrative approach.
