The Birth Equity Journey: Optimizing Racial Equity Action Across Massachusetts; Enduring Activity 5: 1/17/23 Webinar Recording
This enduring activity is a recording of a live webinar presentation that was delivered on January 17, 2023.
The agenda includes a review of aggregate data from hospitals that completed Equity structure and process measures, a bundle component presentation about the creation and maintenance of an equity team, and QI lessons on driver diagrams, fishbone diagrams, and the MAP-IT framework.
This webinar series provides training for obstetric healthcare providers on (1) the definitions and rates of racial disparities in severe maternal morbidity, (2) the practice guidelines to address racial inequities in SMM (maternal equity safety bundle), (3) collecting and stratifying SMM data based on race/ethnicity, and (4) recognizing and implementing the structures and processes to improve maternal health outcomes and eliminate disparities.
The series also outlines how to build collaborative and interdisciplinary teams to implement quality improvement initiatives and improve patient-centered and equitable care during pregnancy and postpartum. Also included are the practice components or maternal safety bundles, the process measures that indicate quality care, and strategies to provide equitable care for pregnant and postpartum people.
Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of primary care physicians, anesthesiologists, emergency medicine and family medicine physicians, obstetricians, pediatricians, mental health professionals, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners and midwives.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe and implement clinical best practice of the AIM maternal safety bundles
- Describe and implement the safety bundles using the improvement science process
- Complete structure and process measures of the safety bundles
- Discuss teaming process to utilize improvement science
- Implement strategies to improve pregnancy experiences and birth outcomes for MA families as part of a state collaborative
