Medical Care and Comprehensive Support for Gender Expansive Youth
What does comprehensive support look like for gender-expansive youth in a school setting?
The course will enhance school nurse skill and knowledge in the care and holistic support of transgender students. Nurses who complete the training will be better prepared to deliver quality nursing care and coordination to transgender and serve as advocates in their school communities.

After completing the training, you will be able to:
- Have a foundational awareness of transgender, their needs, and how historical and current societal/political climate impact their health and well-being.
- Reflect on and demonstrate a knowledge of the core components of gender-affirming medical and holistic health care.
- Acquire familiarity with federal and state policies supporting transgender and gender diverse youth and their medical care
- Discuss insurance concerns for providing care to trans youth with a focus on MassHealth coverage of medical gender affirmation.
- Identify strategies to apply best practice approaches and advocacy in delivering quality gender-affirming care in the school health clinic and have knowledge of available resources for supporting students and families
