
Managing a Medication Administration and Delegation Program in MA Schools
What should a Medication Program Manager know to successfully supervise their school/district’s medication administration program?
This course is for school administrators and School Nurse Medication Program Managers who oversee their school entity’s medication administration program. It covers the laws and regulations for creating medication policies and explains the MA Controlled Substance Registration (MCSR) application process. The course also reviews the roles of the School Committee or governing body and the Medication Program Manager in managing the medication administration program. Learners will work through case examples and activities to evaluate their local medication programs and identify areas for improvement.
This course, along with the Introduction to Medication Administration and Delegation in MA Schools course, is required every three years for School Nurses who are Medication Program Managers.
Target Audience
School Nurse Medication Program Managers (signatories on their school entity’s MCSR application; required every three years).
Recommended for:
School administrators, members of governing school bodies (e.g., School Committees, Board of Trustees), School Physicians, and other school personnel who are responsible for the development and/or implementation of medication policies and procedures.
Learning Objectives
After completing the training, learners or healthcare teams will be able to:
- Describe the role and responsibilities of the Medication Program Manager in supervising a district/school medication administration program
- In consultation with the school physician, develop a medication administration policy proposal that meets state laws and regulations and can be adopted by the School Committee or governing body
- Develop medication administration procedures that comply with state laws and regulations and district/school policies
- Evaluate a district’s/school’s medication administration program policies and procedures for compliance with state laws and regulations
